OK, important credit card announcement over.

A while back, I mentioned that Spirit Airlines was auctioning off its slots at LaGuardia International Airport (LGA). Spirit operated from the airport’s Marine Air Terminal, the cute little round building below.

Congratulations to JetBlue, which once approved, will secure those spots — up to 12 new round-trip flights a day!

The word is that they’d like to move into Terminal A fully, which I think is a great and fitting idea. Something about JetBlue feels retro and has always. Maybe it’s their bright blue theming, maybe it’s the word “jet” in their name ... but regardless, I’m hoping they’ll give the historic Marine Air Terminal a true and timeless makeover. (Keeping the charm and character, of course!)

In other aviation news, Southwest Airlines introduced a “reverse red-eye”, which my colleague Sean Cudahy calls “one of America’s wildest overnight itineraries.” This route flies from Las Vegas’ Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) to Honolulu’s Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL).

Here’s the schedule, courtesy of Sean, which gives it the “reverse red-eye” name.

• Depart LAS at 2:45 a.m. PDT.

• Fly for six hours and 25 minutes, while backtracking three time zones

• Land at HNL at 6:10 a.m. Hawaiian standard time.

So yes, you’re effectively going back in time. Who said time travel wasn’t real? ;)
